Mixed feelings
Oh gosh. Oceanum. This project feels so strange to look back on. On the one hand, I should be very proud of this project. This is the first project I ever had featured in an exhibit, at the Johnson & Wales Culinary Museum. But on the other hand, I can’t help but feel like I personally fell short here. At the time I was dealing with a lot and did not give this project my all. Not to use that as an excuse, it’s just the truth. But somehow my less-than-100% effort was still good enough to be given a permanent home in a culinary museum. I still struggle to accept that.
This project was one of a series of projects that I collaborated on with two other designs, and culinary teams. JWU is primarily known as a culinary institute, and so it’s only logical that we collaborate with the student chefs. It was incredibly fun getting to work with the chefs, although, truth be told, I had more fun eating the insanely delicious meals they cooked for us (apparently Cajun popcorn with seafoam is a thing?).
My main role for this specific project was creating driftwood menus. Another designer worked on the restaurant set/layout, and the third worked on the logo and branding. I think this project mostly speaks for itself. I’ll always struggle with accepting that this project was worthy of being shown off - but apparently it is. Either way, it holds a special, yet strange, place in my heart.
