Anchors, Leather and Design
In 2023, I realized my personal portfolio and branding were in dire need of an upgrade. So, rather than doing the smart thing and just touching up what I already had, I took it all and threw it into the fires of Mount Doom and started over (if you’re curious to see my old branding, there’s a post lower down under the college work section with all that!).
My goal with my rebrand was mostly to just refresh what I already had, but I wanted my new logo to mean more to me, and to be usable both for my design portfolio and my leatherworking business. So, the design consists of an Anchor, to pay homage to my home state of Rhode Island, a leatherworking Needle, and the letters J and C. Prior to transitioning, my initials were JC, which was when I started the new logo. After transitioning I spent a long time trying to rework it to include the S - but nothing looked as good as the JC version did. So, I’m keeping it that way to pay tribute to my past self and the wonderful work that they did.
The primary logo comes in three versions. The main one which says SOPHIA CARON, and CARON LEATHER STUDIO, to recognize both branches of my work. There is then a version for just my design work, and a third for just my leather work. The 96 calls out my birth year, and 23 is the year I began leatherworking.
I love to have options in a color palette, and so I always plan out more than I need. On this site, you pretty much only see white, Timberwolf, Cobalt Blue, and Hexachrome Black. Amaranth Purple is there as a secondary color if I need it, but there are also two other colors - French Mauve and Olivine that match very nicely with the blue that I can use as needed. Even though I don’t really make use of them on this site, it’s always nice to have options ready to go for when you need them.
